When I saw that the Eagles were adding Greensboro, NC to their 2023 tour list, I asked Cindy if she wanted to go. She was happy to attend the show with me. Floor tickets were a little pricey, so I got us two tickets in Section 111, Row SS, seats 1 and 2. A really great side view of the stage with no obstruction.
The first concert we attended, upon moving from Maryland to North Carolina, was the Eagles at the Greensboro Coliseum 7 years ago. Don Henley mentioned that they had played the Greensboro Coliseum 19 times over their 50-year history of touring. An Eagles Concert back in the seventies resulted in a riot.
They started the show by playing the Hotel California album from start to finish. As part of their stage set up, they had a vinyl record player with someone starting the album on side 1.
Once they finished playing all the songs on side 1, they had a mysterious woman in a black dress cross the stage and flip it over to side 2. Don explained that back in the day you could only have 20 minutes of music on each side of a vinyl album. Nine songs later they had played the front and back of the album.
Don Henly, Joe Walsh, Stuart Smith, Vince Gill, Deacon Frye and Timothy Schmidt voices were exceptional. Could not help but get goose bumps listening to them play and remembering where you were when you first heard their songs. After playing Hotel California in its entirety, they took a short break with promises to play their greatest hits upon return.
Once they returned, they started with “Seven Bridges Road” (SBR). These guys are exceptional musicians and can harmonize like no one else and proved it singing SBR. Playing “Take it Easy”, “Tequila Sunrise” and Don Henleys “The Boys of Summer” and “Desperado”. Fourteen hits and then a four song encore. Joe Walsh got some of his hits in as well including “Lifes been good to me so far”, the James Gang “Funk 49” and “Rocky Mountain Way”.
You could not help but feel fortunate to see these guys play one more time. It was an incredible concert and left me grateful for having the opportunity to see them one more time. I hope it’s not their last tour. They were AWESOME!!!!
